In April 1861, Mary Taylor was a house owner at Hardington Marsh. The census records her age as 76, but she was 70.

Mary was born at Hardington on 9 June 1791, the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Churchill.

She had an illegitimate son, Thomas, in about 1815. He married Mary Giles at East Coker on 21 September 1835.

On 9 April 1822, Mary married William Taylor, a sailcloth weaver, at Hardington. His first wife, Ruth Churchill, had died the year before, aged 53, leaving him with two children, Ann and Ruth.

In 1843, William and Mary occupied a house at Hardington Marsh.

Mary was a sailcloth weaver in 1851.

William died in November or December 1851, aged 80.

In April 1861, Mary shared her home with Ruth Taylor’s daughter, Anne, and her family.

Mary died in January or February 1870, aged 80.
