In April 1891, Sarah was Dairy Manager at the Hill Dairy House. Her husband, Francis, was the dairyman. Frank Purchase, aged 16, was their assistant.

Early life

Sarah was born in about 1844 at Littleton, a hamlet in the parish of Compton Dundon, Somerset, the daughter of William and Sarah Gould.

By March 1851, William and his family had moved to Walton, near Street, where he farmed 81 acres and employed two labourers. In April 1861, William was a dairyman at Lodmoor Farm, Wincanton.

By April 1871, Sarah had left home and worked as a domestic servant at West Knoyle.

Sarah has not been found on the census of 1881.

Married life

On 27 June 1888, at Wheathill, Sarah married Francis Meech, a widower.

By June 1890, Francis was a dairyman at the Hill House Dairy, Hardington.

On 12 January 1892, Francis sold his dairy utensils and other effects at the Hill Dairy and moved to East Coker.

Francis died at East Coker on 4 February 1901, aged 62, leaving effects valued at £164-5s-8d.

Widowhood

In March 1901, Sarah was at Burton Houses, East Coker, next to the Plymouth Brethren Chapel. She died on 6 November 1901, aged 56, leaving effects valued at £232-3s-4d. Sarah left her mare to her brother-in-law, directing that it be kept for breeding purposes and not sold. She divided the remainder between her brothers and sisters.[i]

arah was interred, close to her father, at Kingston Magna, Dorset, on 11 November 1901.
