In March 1851, Mary Guppy, aged 51, was a shopkeeper at Oil Moor.
Mary was born at Hardington in about 1800, the daughter of William and Mary Cleale.
On 3 February 1825, Mary married Thomas Guppy at Hardington. He was a weaver until the early 1860s and then a farm labourer.
The 1843 tithe apportionment shows Thomas Guppy occupying plot 98B at Hardington Moor.
In the 1851 census, Mary gave her occupation as a shopkeeper. She has no recorded occupation in the 1861, 1871, or 1881 censuses.
Mary died in August 1882, aged 82 (burial register) or 83 (civil registration). Thomas died on 2 February 1890, aged 90 (burial register) or 89 (civil registration).
