Introduction
Abraham was a carpenter at Hardington Moor from the late 1830s until his death in 1860.
Childhood
Abraham, the first child of John and Phoebe Saint, was born at South Harp on 6 August 1811. His father, John, was a labourer who moved to Hardington with his family in the 1820s or 1830s.[1]
Marriage
On 6 April 1839, Abraham married Harriet Delamont at Hardington Mandeville. They established their home at Oil Moor, close to Harriet’s parents.
Land purchase
On 25 January 1850, Abraham purchased the fee simple of “Flax Pit” from Joseph Dalamount for £6. This plot of land was number 93 on the tithe map.
Death
Harriet Saint died on 21 June 1859, at the age of 42 due to “many years’ illness, disordered stomach and liver, obstructed bowels.”[2]
Abraham died on 18 January 1860, at the age of 48, from a “long standing liver affection, disordered stomach, obstruction in the bowels, constant sickness.”[3]
Children
Their only daughter, Louisa, married Joseph Partridge about two weeks after her father’s death.[4]
