Early life

Edwin was born at Halstock in about 1874. His father, George, was a farm labourer who came from Hardington, and his mother, Emily, also came from there.

In 1876 and 1877, his parents lived at Radyr, Glamorganshire.

In April 1881, Edwin lived with his parents at Cowcroft, Hardington Mandeville, where his father worked as a shepherd.

By April 1891, Edwin lived with his parents at 4 Coronation Buildings, Yeovil, and his occupation was platelayer.

Military career

On 6 February 1892, Edwin enlisted in the Somerset Light Infantry, with regimental number Som/3526. He was eighteen and 5 feet 4 and a half inches tall. 

By March 1901, he was a corporal.

In March 1901, Edwin was a patient in the Royal Victoria Hospital at Netley, Hampshire, receiving treatment after returning from India.[1] He died within the next few months, aged 27, and his body was interred at St John’s, Yeovil, on 14 May.

George’s father ran the Butchers’ Arms in Hendford, Yeovil, from about 1902 until 1914.[2]
