Introduction

Emily Jane Pike was born in the Shaftesbury area and spent most of her life there. However, in April 1891, she was a dairywoman at Marsh Dairy, Hardington, while her husband, Robert Charles Pike, was the dairyman.

Childhood

Emily was born at Motcombe in about 1863, the daughter of James and Caroline Stacey. Her father was a farm worker. Both civil registration records and the baptism register record her name as Emma Jane.

In April 1881, Emily was a domestic servant at Coward House, Motcombe, the home of George Hiscock, a farmer of 160 acres.

Marriage

On 11 February 1884, Emily married Robert Charles Pike at Motcombe. At that time, Robert worked as a labourer.

Dairies

Initially, Robert and Emily ran dairies. By April 1891, they lived at Marsh Dairy, Hardington. Robert’s niece, Martha Sharp, aged 5, the daughter of Robert’s sister, Annie, was a visitor.

Farms

By March 1901, Robert was a farmer. At that time, he and Emily lived at Edward’s Farm, Cann, Dorset. By April 1911, they had moved to Castle Farm, Donhead St Mary. In June 1921, they lived at Bramble Farm, Shaftesbury.

Death

Emily died in 1930, aged 77.

Robert died on 18 March 1933, aged 78, leaving an estate valued at £318-10s-6d. His last address was at Bittles Green, Motcombe.[1]

Children

Robert and Emily had no children.
