Introduction

In June 1841, George Bartlett was an independent, aged 55, living by himself at Hardington Marsh. As the census provides no family context for him, it is difficult to identify who he was. The following notes are therefore tentative and incomplete.

Birth

George may be the son of Robert and Elizabeth Bartlett, born on 20 November 1783. If this identification is correct, he inherited a silver bowl from his mother in 1833.[1]

Marriage

George may be the George Bartlett who married Elizabeth Genge Bartlett at East Coker on 8 March 1813. This couple had three children, one of whom, Robert, operated as a corn factor at Torquay during the second half of the nineteenth century. Elizabeth died at Hardington in April 1827.

Death

George probably died at Halstock in May 1850, aged 66, and was buried at Hardington.[2]
