Introduction
Joan Haggett moved to Hardington after her marriage in 1801. She and her husband, John, lived in the Church House at Hardington.
Birth
Jane, born in about 1772, was the daughter of John and Joan Genge.
Marriage
On 31 August 1801, at Pendomer, she married John Haggett of Hardington.
Residence
In 1811, John occupied the Church House at Hardington.[1] From 1832 to 1838, he was on the voters’ list for his freehold interest in Moor Orchard.
Inheritance
In 1820, Joan inherited the interest on £100 for life from her brother, William Genge, a yeoman of Corscombe.[2]
John’s death
John died in August 1839, aged 68.
Joan’s later life
By June 1841, Joan Haggett was an independent living in Church Lane with her son, William, who was a weaver.
The tithe survey of 1843 recorded Joan as the occupier of a house and garden (plot 24), an orchard (plot 25), and an allotment in Cold Harbour (plot 452).
Death
Joan died in November 1847, aged 75.
Children
John and Joan had four children: John, Susannah, Sarah and William. John died in 1830, and Sarah died in 1820. In March 1851, William was in Shepton Mallet prison. Susannah married John Sandiford in 1834 and lived until 1880.
