Introduction
Joseph Rendell spent his childhood at Hardington Marsh. As a young man, he moved to Swansea, where he found work as a ship’s carpenter. The details of his later life remain unclear.
Childhood
Joseph was born at Hardington in 1854, the sixth of seven children born to William and Sarah Rendell. His father, William, was a carpenter.
The family lived at Hardington Marsh, and by April 1871, Joseph was the only child still living at home. At that time, he was employed as a carpenter.
Swansea
By April 1881, Joseph had become a ship’s carpenter and was lodging at 40 Inkerman Street, Swansea.
No definite information has been found after this date, though he may have died at Cardiff in 1919 at the age of 65.[1]
