On Monday, 4 January 1909, Mrs Cleife, the rector’s wife, treated the Sunday School children and helpers to a New Year’s party at the Rectory. Between forty and fifty took part. After enjoying delicious food in the Parish Room, the children moved into the dining room to play games around a giant Christmas tree lavishly decorated with coloured candles. Mrs Cleife gave each child a present. She also allocated four special presents using a draw, the numbers for which were handed out by her two-year-old daughter, Dorothy. The party spent the rest of the evening dancing and singing. Henry White, the Superintendent of the Sunday School, played the music.[1]
Henry White was the late Audrey Marsh’s grandfather.
